CEO Daurice Cox, PsyD.
Bay State Community Services (BSCS) is in a time of both exciting new opportunities and unfamiliar challenges. Our most recent opportunities include the launch of two new programs: the MA Youth Diversion Program, funded by the Department of Youth Services (DYS), and the Young Parent Program, funded by the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA). Both funders are new to BSCS, and we’re thrilled to be expanding our funding partnerships.
I am also happy to let you all know that we have again been awarded the Community Service Agency (CSA) contracts in both Plymouth and Coastal regions.
And, last month we celebrated Recovery Month. There were hundreds of events and activities throughout the state. The month ended with approximately 2,000 people coming together on Boston Common. This amazing event was a tribute to how we can make our voices heard and make a difference when we come together.
While I would like to focus on all the positives, the challenges we are facing are real. As you are all aware, the landscape for social services has dramatically changed. Funding, support, and priorities have become highly politicized. How this will impact the agency and the people we serve remains to be seen. There are daily changes in information, along with a great deal of misinformation and speculation being publicized.
It is in times like these that I am especially grateful to be part of a mission-driven agency. We have a clear direction and a strong foundation that keep us focused on doing the next right thing.
Thank you.
