Mass in Motion is a statewide initiative that promotes healthy eating and active living in our communities—where we live, learn, work, and play. Mass in Motion seeks to reduce the risk of chronic diseases by improving access to healthy foods and encouraging active lifestyles.
This program focuses on changing community practices through policies and creating environments that:
- Increase access to local fresh foods through farmers’ markets, food pantries, community gardens, and partnerships with food retailers.
- Build and expand open spaces, parks, playgrounds, and other places for physical activity.
- Create safe opportunities for physical activity such as sidewalk improvements, bike lanes, and walkable paths or trails.
