Therapeutic Activity Program (TAP)
A Department of Mental Health-funded day treatment program servicing six to eight adolescents ranging in age from 12 to 18. Adolescents participating in TAP are referred by DMH and may fall into one of the following categories: needs assistance with making friends or being a better friend; needs to stabilize his/her emotional state; does not feel safe in many places; needs transitioning to school or to the work world; or needs a place to help stabilize him/herself on medication.
TAP consists of a variety of groups throughout the day, in which the teens can earn points. At the end of the week, points are added together, translated into money, and used to make purchases in the community. Most adolescents remain in the program for up to a year and then graduate on to other community-based activities or services, or to get a job through supported employment.
TAP is a fun, safe setting where teens can interact with other peers and work on important emotional issues. TAP is open Monday through Friday year round.
