On Thursday, October 18, 2007 Bay State Community Services hosted the Best of Bay State – A Night of Comedy at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy MA. This fundraising event featured the comedic performances of famous Boston comedian Lenny Clarke and other well-known Boston comedians. All of proceeds from the event benefited the agency in its ongoing efforts to provide programming for adults and children in need of social, mental health, addiction and correctional services.
The evening began at 6:00 p.m. with a welcome reception and silent auction, followed by dinner in the Grand Ballroom and The Best of Bay State Awards Ceremony, which honored some of the people and institutions that have played a key role in the growth of the organization. Honorees included Carl Gus Soderstrom, Jr., the agency’s longest serving board member, Ralph Yohe, current board member and President of the South Shore YMCA and Cintia Depina, a former client of Bay State.
“We are thrilled to be bringing together so many wonderful people in support of Bay State Community Services,” said Ken Tarabelli, Executive Director of Bay State Community Services. “Carl and Ralph have been significant sources of support and inspiration and we are proud to honor them at this special event.” “Ms. DePina’s life story is one of strength, courage, and the triumph of the human spirit. In a real sense, she represents the reason we are all together tonight.”
“Lenny Clarke is a great addition to our program this year! We are excited to have him on board for this event,” said Tarabelli. “With so many new things on the horizon and so many great things happening with the organization, we are eager to introduce Bay State Community Services to members of the community who may not already know about our organization.”
For the second year in a row Eastern Bank had come on board as a Platinum sponsor for the event. Gold Sponsors included Atlantic Broadband, Inc. and State Street Corporation, our Silver sponsor, Foley Hoag LLP, contributing Bronze sponsors, Dickinson Development Corporation, Gotta Retirement Services, Inc., Granite City Electric Supply Company, Quincy Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Barbara Allen and George Pope. Many thanks as well to our friends, DBA Salvatore J. Puccia Builder, Kris Larsen, Matera, Vopat, Matera & Johnson PC, South Shore Savings Bank, Susan R. Brown M.D. and Quincy Medical Center.
